Sheet metal bend relief size.
When considering sheet metal thickness a single sheet with punches holes is a good rule of thumb.
For example if you make a partial flange as above using all the defaults the software makes relief cuts at the end of the bends as shown to the right.
For example if you were bending a piece of sheet metal perfectly in half with no cutouts you could create the bend accurately without including a bend relief.
Choose create relief in the sheet metal menu.
Assume the thickness is 1 mm a ratio to thickness equals to 4 will create a 4 mm per side square relief fig 5 for the obround relief the ratio to thickness options works in a similar manner.
Select an item see the note below.
Type smreliefcreate in the command bar.
Not every bend requires a bend relief.
Generally capabilities of of 0 9mm 20mm in thickness are able to be manufactured from sheet 3mm or plate 3mm but this tolerance depends mainly on the part.
One benefit of a bend relief is that it makes the part easier to produce.
First utilize minimal bend radius of internal bend radius equal to material thickness.
When is a bend relief required.
You should also incorporate the use of bend relief cuts with a thickness of at least the thickness of the material with strong preference for bend relief cuts of a thickness equal to material thickness plus 1 64 inches.
Relief height is generally kept greater than two times of sheet thickness plus bend radius.
Synchronous sheet metal is pretty cool even cooler than just normal synchronous modeling if you ll excuse that word.
Click the create relief tool button on the sheet metal ribbon tab.
This option is straight forward.
For a 3 width ratio when the part is 1 mm in thickness the width of the slot will be 3 mm.
If it is ok for the metal to rip the minimum bend relief is zero.
Enter relief size by bend radius ratio or force bend reliefs auto auto.
At minimum the size of the bend relief should equal the material thickness plus the inside bend radius.
In general a minimum bend relief is equal to the material thickness plus the inside bend radius.
The bigger the bend relief the easier it is to align over the end of the tooling.
Extrude hole size position guidelines creating an extruded hole using a punching process requires extreme pressure force.
To eliminate this a bend relief is added so the edge of the sheet metal is perpendicular to the bend.
